Frank Rocks to a Double Fifth

2007 Havoline Ginetta Championship Round 8 - Rockingham

Frank's debut at the Rockingham 'oval' proved a challenge with no set-up information or circuit  knowledge to hand in the Will Hoy Scholarship/Dynojet UK backed formula Ginetta car.  Only part of the oval circuit was used and an infield section including undulating tight corners made up the very difficult track.

Frank's introduction to the circuit was on a Friday test session in wet weather conditions. This was followed by Saturday morning practice again in the wet, and a later dry qualifying session.

Despite the disadvantages presented to him, Frank managed to put the car on the fifth row of the grid in 10th places for both races.

Race one saw Frank make a good start, and make progress through the field.  Having closed down the battle for fourth, the safety car was brought out with Frank lying sixth.  A one lap dash was left after the safety car pulled in, with Frank timing the restart brilliantly and picking up one place to cross the line in fifth.

In race two Frank made an excellent start, passing seven cars into the first corner to slot into third place, which was held until lap six when he was embroiled in a battle with the closing pack.  Frank eventually finished in a very creditable fifth place.

Frank commented:  'It has been a difficult weekend due to lack of dry track time, but I was still able to come away with two good results. I was fired up for both races, and made up as many places as I could.

Frank Snr commented:  'We knew we would struggle at this circuit after we could not test at the media day, because of the clash with the Genk round of the Stars of Tomorrow Championship.  This was compounded with the wet session on Friday and Saturday morning.  However, two fifth places were acceptable results, and Frank's increased confidence in the car was evident by his first lap manoeuvres in the second race.  We were not disappointed when he slipped back from 3rd to 5th as we knew we did not have the pace to run at the front.'
